Here are some questions you may want to ask yourself before choosing a Coach. Do they understand my goals? Am I comfortable with their style and personality? Do they listen well? Just like any major investment, you want to do some leg work before choosing the right Coach for yourself. Take your Coach out for a test drive. Have an extensive conversation before you hire them and be sure they understand what you are looking to achieve. This is a great way to get a sense of what it would be like to work with one another before you make a commitment.
Other things to keep in mind:
• Does your Coach have the proper credentials? It is of the utmost importance that your Coach is certified with the International Coach Federation (ICF). The ICF is the governing body of professional coaches. An ICF credentialed coach has had very specific coach training, achieved a designated number of experienced hours and has been coached by a mentor coach.
• It’s important to find a Coach with experience. However, keep in mind experience comes in many shapes. For example, a Coach’s family life, previous careers, and academic history will all play a part in what he or she brings to the co-creative relationship. Other questions to keep in mind might be: How long has your coach been coaching? Are they a coach full-time or part-time? What other credentials do they have?
• Make sure you understand the agreement before you commit. Like any major investment know what you are getting for your money. Be clear on the duration of time, and cost of your sessions. Every coaching relationship is different. In our experience our clients have achieved maximum value after working with a coach for 3 months.
